Welcome to the new look Asian Fashion! In little over three months we have grown from a modest 160 page handbag-size read, to a mammoth 416 pages of style, stars and the best buys for the season. In this sizzling Summer issue of Asian Fashion we go global, reporting on all the glitz and glamour of the India Fashion Week (page 86), and back to London for a sneak peek at what is in store for us next season (page 196). As with all catwalk shows, the London Autumn/Winter collections for 2007/2008, delivered trends that shocked and inspired. Some – despite all attempts to see how they could be worn – still remain in the realm of the avant-garde to be admired as art rather than worn as fashion. While others like Jonathan Saunders with his monochrome-based dresses screamed accessibility.
In our special on Global Glamour we delve a little deeper and go beyond the runway shows, celebrities and fashion designers. We bring you exclusive interviews with three innovative fashion photographers who are taking it upon themselves to preserve the coolness and creativity of their profession. Their images are not only breathtaking but their subjects – whether it be beauties Aishwarya Rai or Malaika Arora (page 78); or more simply a haute couture gown (page 104)- are exposed in a completely new and refreshing light. It is such a thrill to present these photographs to you – many of which are from their personal portfolios and therefore rarely seen.
Aside from the glamour of the international world of fashion, we serve up a colossal helping of high street trends to last you through the summer, reveal the up and coming designers to look out for (page 213), and feature a 32-page must-have guide to the Most Wanted Handbags, Shoes and Jewellery this side of the Atlantic (page 321).
It’s all here; from Bollywood gossip (page 112), Entertainment reviews, Advice, Beauty and Health, to a real life feature on one brave woman who faced the infamous Casting Couch in India (page 116), and a very candid chat with the versatile British Asian actor Raji James (page 286). Have I forgotten anything? Oh yes, Relationships… if you have one, want one, or have ever been in one – turn to page 244 now. It is a must read!
For now happy reading, and shopping!
